“I Was Simply Redistributing Resources” Says Former Director

By The Citizen Compass Editorial Desk — 1 April
In a development that has left the United Space Confederation reeling — and frankly, not entirely surprised — Director Mackson of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) has tendered his resignation this morning following an internal audit that uncovered what investigators are calling “a breathtaking misappropriation of ministry funds.”
The audit, which was triggered by months of mounting questions surrounding the ONI, revealed that a significant portion of the ministry’s operational budget had been quietly redirected into what sources describe as “a suspiciously well-appointed personal hangar on Microtech.” The hangar, reportedly stocked with a fleet of fully upgraded ships, a custom Carrack with gold trim, and what one auditor described as “an unreasonable quantity of Bespoke whiskey,” is now the subject of a formal USC financial investigation.
The news will come as little surprise to readers who have followed our reporting on the ONI in recent months, with ships breaking down, systems getting hacked, and, clearly, the funding was going elsewhere!

“I Was Simply Redistributing Resources”
In a brief statement released this morning, Director Mackson did not deny the allegations outright; instead, he offered what his legal representation is apparently calling a “philosophical defence.”
“The ONI exists to gather intelligence and explore new frontiers,” the statement read. “I was simply exploring the frontier of personal asset management. The funds were not stolen. They were strategically repositioned.”
He added that the gold-trimmed Carrack — which he has named The Audit — was a “necessary field research vessel” and that the Bespoke whiskey was “for diplomatic purposes.”
USC officials declined to comment on whether either explanation was legally viable. Based on the expressions observed as people left the council chambers this morning, it is not.
As for Director Mackson, he was last seen filing a flight plan out of Port Tressler. Destination: unknown.
The Citizen Compass will continue to follow this story as it develops. If you have information about the whereabouts of one suspiciously well-equipped Carrack with gold trim, please contact our editorial desk.
Happy April 1st.
