USC Got a Full Look at Squadron 42

The Squadron 42 playtest weekend is now well behind us, and it left us with a flood of new information about CIG’s upcoming game. The large majority of it paints a hopeful and positive picture of a project that has been in development for over a decade.

Many USC citizens have been watching the news anxiously, studying every detail. And as luck would have it, one of our own, the Consul of War himself, Mojomonkey, took part in the playtest and spent the weekend at the CIG office in Manchester.

Since returning, Mojomonkey has given the USC a full insight into Squadron 42, sharing every detail he was allowed to. He answered questions in the Squadron 42 channel of the org chat and even hosted a special VC event to answer them in person.

We won’t repeat all the questions and answers here, but we highly recommend that anyone interested check out the SQ42 Org Discord channel while it is still up and ask their own questions there. We also recommend watching Mojomonkey’s video on the game.  (To access the SQ42 channels go to the #tag-definitions and chose the SQ42 Tag!)

What is certain is that the long-awaited Squadron 42 will be worth the wait. By all accounts it is a breathtakingly beautiful game. It may not be to everyone’s taste in terms of gameplay, but it sounds like a masterpiece in visuals, music, acting and story.

Many of us are also hoping that ships and features from Squadron 42 will slowly make their way into the persistent universe. Of course, not everything can be transferred one-to-one from a singleplayer campaign to a live multiplayer verse, but by the sound of it, we can look forward to plenty of exciting additions in the future.

There was one more small surprise as well. Mojomonkey reported that a few people at the playtest recognised the USC! He wore a custom-made jacket covered in Star Citizen patches, one of which was ours.

It was quite a surprise that anyone recognised us. We are not the largest org out there, unlike many others with thousands of members, and yet people remembered us. Mojomonkey said most of them knew the USC from Bar Citizen events and org stands. Perhaps this is a nudge for us to attend some Bar Citizen events when they are nearby, or simply to get together as USC citizens and organise some events of our own.

With that, a big thank you to Mojomonkey for giving us such a detailed look at the Squadron 42 playtest. We certainly can’t wait for the game to come out!
